Substrate Controls
National Institute of Justice (NIJ) (see reuse policy).

Some laboratories may include substrate controls in the process. These controls aid in troubleshooting inhibition arising from the substrate. In addition, substrate controls may show background DNA associated with the source of the biological stain being tested, and therefore assist in mixture interpretation. Evaluation and interpretation of data obtained from substrate controls is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
